Patient questions
The questions we are asked most
Booking, treatments, comfort and coverage. If yours is not here, call 705-302-1967 and ask.
Appointments and new patients
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, of all ages, from Barrie, Orillia and the surrounding townships. Call 705-302-1967 and the front desk will book a first examination and cleaning.
How do I book?
By phone during office hours is quickest. You can also send a request through the booking page and we will call you back to confirm a time.
How often should I come in?
Every six months suits most people. If you have gum disease, a high cavity risk or extensive existing work, we may suggest a three or four month recall instead.
What should I bring to a first visit?
Photo identification, your insurance card, a list of medications, and your previous dentist’s name if you would like X-rays and records requested.
Treatments
Do you see children?
Yes. We suggest a first appointment around the first birthday or when the first tooth appears. Early visits are short, playful and focused on getting comfortable.
Do you offer Invisalign and braces?
Both. A consultation, at no charge, works out which suits your bite, your timeline and your budget.
Is whitening safe for enamel?
Professional whitening supervised by a dentist is. We check for cavities and gum problems first, then use custom trays or an in-office system that shields the gums.
What can be done about sensitive teeth?
Sensitivity comes from receding gums, worn enamel, grinding or a crack. We find the cause and treat it with desensitising agents, fluoride, a night guard or a restoration.
Do wisdom teeth always have to come out?
No. We watch them on X-ray and only recommend removal if they are impacted, crowding, repeatedly infected or impossible to keep clean.
Comfort and anxiety
I am nervous about the dentist. Can you help?
Many of our patients are. We offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation, longer appointments, an agreed stop signal, and a running explanation so nothing is a surprise.
Does a root canal hurt?
It relieves pain rather than causing it. The tooth is fully frozen throughout and most patients say it feels much like having a large filling placed.
Costs, insurance and emergencies
Do you bill insurance directly?
Yes, electronically, to most major Canadian carriers. You generally pay only the remaining portion at the end of the visit.
Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
We do, along with Healthy Smiles Ontario. Bring your coverage documents and we will go through what is included before treatment.
Will I know the cost before treatment starts?
Always. You receive a written estimate listing each procedure, the fee and the expected insurance portion before any work begins.
What counts as an emergency?
Severe toothache, facial swelling, a knocked-out or broken tooth, a lost filling or crown, or bleeding that will not stop. Call 705-302-1967 as early in the day as you can.
Still unsure?
The front desk is happy to talk something through before you book — fees, coverage, or what a particular treatment actually involves.
